Spacemen were commissioned to create a unique concept for a very challenging site that stretched 90m long by only 4m wide which had two flights of stairs sandwiched in between that. What was deemed as constraints, we saw as an opportunity to rethink how people interact and dine in restaurants. Taking inspiration from public spaces, the design is characterised by our reinterpretation of outdoor and park seating arrangements.

With the ‘Plaka Steps’ of Athens as a point of reference, where the boundaries between indoors and outdoors are blurred as restaurants’ tables and chairs spill out onto the streets and its infamous cascading steps for patrons to casually sit around and enjoy their meals. The Plaka are lined with musicians, florist, photographers and much more everywhere, be it standing, lying down or chilling by the steps.

Thus we tried to capture that energy and dynamics by allowing our patrons to stand up and eat or sit down or find a little nook and eat there. You can even tuck yourself away in between one of the single seater nooks for a more private dining experience on a date or you can even take your tray with you to lounge anywhere along the tiered timber platform area meeting new friends or some alone time with a river facing bar seats along the windows.
